Lean Improvements to Passenger Departure Flow in Abu Dhabi Airport: Focus on Data from the Check-in Element
نویسنده
چکیده
This is the second paper of three which concerns improving Passenger Departure Flow. The main aim of this paper is provide a summary of the research results, which includes both the reporting of empirical data collected at the Airport and the results obtained from simulation of existing flow for passanger departure process. The large quantity of data means this paper focuses on reporting data for the economy check-in element only. The project led towards development of rules for process of improvement for the entire departure process and explored the benefits of using the Lean philosophy for improving a range of airport processes. Airport processes are completely different than the manufacturing and other service sectors due to the complex interlinking between different stake holders such as airline regulations, national/international law etc.

Simulation Analysis of International-departure Passenger Flows in an Airport Terminal
An entire airport terminal building is simulated to examine passenger flows, especially international departures. First, times needed for passengers to be processed in the terminal building are examined. It is found that the waiting time for check-in accounts for more than 80 percent of the total waiting time of passengers spent in the airport. A specialpurpose data-generator is designed and de...
متن کاملAn Analysis of Resident and Non- Resident Air Passenger Behaviour of Origin Airport Choice
Increasing number of air travellers in recent years and the emergence of multi-airport cities throughout the world has made the behaviour of travellers regarding the choice of the origin airport even more important. Analysis of this behaviour helps for a better future planning and development of competing airports as an important element of their demand prediction. In this paper, particular emp...
متن کاملPassenger Flow Predictions at Sydney International Airport: A Data-Driven Queuing Approach
Airports constitute some of the most complex systems enabling mobility in today’s society. The various components inside the airport system each have specific requirements and include numerous systems, processes and stakeholders. Stakeholders are comprised of government entities (security and customs), private bodies (airport owner, airlines) and customers (passengers and cargo). An airport det...
متن کاملMit Icat Observation and Analysis of Departure Operations at Boston Logan International Airport
The Departure Planner (DP) is a concept for a decision-aiding tool that is aimed at improving the departure operations performance at major congested airports. In order to support the development of the DP tool, the flow constraints and their causalities in the departure process primarily responsible for generating inefficiencies and delaysneed to be identified. This thesis is an effort to iden...
